Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – The Department of Drug Administration has warned sellers against promoting unverified medicines through social media platforms.
In a public notice, the department expressed serious concern over the uncontrolled sale of medicines claiming to treat diabetes, obesity, prostate issues, thyroid disorders, uric acid problems, cancer, and sexual enhancement on platforms like Facebook and TikTok.
The department has cautioned that such medicines violate the Drug Act 2035 and should not be advertised, sold, or used.
According to the department, using medicines without scientific evidence can lead to serious health problems. For instance, Garcinia Cambogia has been found to cause effects ranging from lead poisoning and severe abdominal pain to constipation.
Some products marketed for sexual enhancement have been found to contain Sildenafil, a drug used to treat sexual dysfunction
