Nepal Health News Kathmandu: Mercure Hotel, a five-star hotel located in Sukedhara, Kathmandu, has donated five lakhs to Cancer Care Nepal.
The donation aims to support the treatment of economically disadvantaged citizens suffering from cancer. Mercure Hotel has been providing financial assistance for the treatment of these individuals for a long time.
During a program held in Kathmandu, the honorary president of the organization, actress Manisha Koirala, received a cheque for Rs. 500,000 from the hotel’s operator, Deshbandhu Basnet.
Actress Koirala thanked the hotel for its support, noting that the donation would be a significant and meaningful contribution to the treatment of cancer patients. She expressed hope for a long-term collaboration between the organization and the hotel.
“This organization has been helping financially weak individuals suffering from cancer for a long time,” said Koirala. “This donation from Mercure Hotel Kathmandu will provide support and encouragement to those fighting cancer in the future.”
Hotel operator Basnet shared that the land originally purchased for building an international cancer hospital is now where the hotel is situated. He expressed his excitement at being able to contribute to cancer patients' treatment.
“The land was initially acquired with the intention of building an international-level cancer hospital, but due to various reasons, the hospital could not be constructed. Now, with the hotel operating, I am happy that we can still assist in the treatment of cancer patients,” Basnet said. He also mentioned the hotel’s continued cooperation with the organization for cancer patients’ support in the future.
Dr. Madan Kumar Piya, president of Cancer Care Nepal, mentioned that the organization has been providing free treatment for cancer patients who cannot afford it for a long time. “We work with the aim of helping those who are economically unable to afford cancer treatment or are forced to discontinue their treatment due to financial constraints,” he said.
Founded in 2008, Cancer Care Nepal has been raising awareness about cancer and public health issues while providing treatment for cancer patients.
