Nepal Health News, Kathmandu – Twelve federal hospitals across the country have added and expanded services by the month of Chait. According to the direction of Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, the Ministry had published a schedule during the first week of Chait for adding and expanding services at federal hospitals.
Health Secretary Dr. Bikash Devkota had instructed that the work be completed at the federal hospitals according to the schedule. Based on the details received within the Chait month, most hospitals have managed to expand their services within the stipulated time, stated Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, a spokesperson for the Ministry.
At Bir Hospital, a free camp against mouth cancer of Pathheghar is being conducted in collaboration with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Similarly, the trauma center under the hospital has started providing digital reports by removing films from city scans and X-rays. In addition, Patan Health Science Institute has launched neuro-electromyography and nerve conduction testing (NCV) in neurology services.
Kanti Children's Hospital has started providing hemodialysis services for children. Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital has introduced a simulation laboratory and expanded its burn unit at the Kupandole branch.
At GP Koirala National Lung and Respiratory Treatment Center in Dulegaunda, Tanahu, hemodialysis services have commenced. Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital has launched echocardiography and PFT (pulmonary function test) services.
Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar has started IVF (in-vitro fertilization) services under the “Nissantan Upar” scheme, which was initiated by Health Minister Paudel.
Dadeldhura Hospital has begun integrated lab sample collection by drawing laboratory samples from a single point. At Narayani Hospital in Birgunj, an electronic medical report system (iEMR) has been implemented in the NICU, along with simultaneous initiation of histopathology, audiogram, colonoscopy, and cryotherapy services.
Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj has expanded its ICU by adding two beds and also added two beds to its burn ward during the Chait month, bringing the total to eight beds.
However, VP Koirala Health Science Institute, which had announced plans to add an MCH building and additional lab machines during Chait, and Bharatpur Hospital, which had announced the establishment of a Can Lab, have not been able to start these services yet. Both hospitals have communicated to the Ministry that they will add these services soon, according to Ministry spokesperson Budhathoki.
