The meeting was convened by Prime Minister Oli following concerns raised by the Association of Private Medical and Dental Colleges, which claimed difficulties in providing residential doctors with government-equivalent allowances, and after students threatened to resume protests if the allowances were not provided.
Earlier, the 16th meeting of the Commission held on Magh 25 (February 8) had addressed the demands of protesting resident doctors by deciding that private medical colleges must provide a monthly subsistence allowance of NPR 48,500, equivalent to the eighth level of government pay scale.
Now, with a study underway regarding the increase in seat quotas and fees, private colleges will be required to follow the Commission’s decision on the allowance, and student matching will begin accordingly.
The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for Baisakh 15 (April 27, 2025).
